The so-called House With The Paintings (Huset med målningarna in Swedish) is one of Visby's best-preserved 13th century stone buildings. Near the north-western end you can see traces of a smaller house of even greater age. The house had been built before the wall and was consequently included in it when the wall was erected. During the years, the house served as lodging for guests of the Solberga Abbey, housed craftsmen and merchants and was used for storage. Inside there are well-preserved mural paintings on the walls and ceiling vaults, hence the name. On the upper floor there are remnants of baroque paintings in the form of plant ornaments and in the north wall a picture of a ship carved into the plaster from the 13th century. The building is privately owned.
