The Emperor Gate (Kajsarporten in Swedish) was constructed in 1661 at the initiative of the tradeswoman Margareta Bönderb so that she would have less trouble getting to her grazing land outside the City Wall. Her request was approved "after reflection”. The gateway bore her name for many years, until it was finally changed to the Emperor Gate after the adjustment tower. The name alludes to the Emperor supposedly to accentuate the tower's superiority.
