The Fisherman's Gate

Visby, Sweden

The Fisherman’s Gate (Fiskarporten in Swedish) was built during the later part of the Middle Ages, probably in the 15th century. After the old harbor became too shallow for large boats, it was used as a fishing harbor instead. This gate was built to make it easier for the fishermen who lived inside the wall to reach the fishing port, hence the name.
