The Double Gate (Dubbelporten in Swedish) consists of two large round-arched gates that led directly from the old port into Rolandstorget and the Wine House (Vinhuset).
Before the Little Beach Gate was built the Double Gate was the best opportunity for people to get in and out of the quays in the harbor and to transport goods between the boats and the warehouses. Some sources mention that the Double Gate also functioned as a customs gate. The traffic through the gates became so heavy when trade increased, that it was decided to open up the new gate which came to be known as The Small Beach Gate (
