Miners’ cottages

Lurgatan, 130 56 Utö, Sweden

The houses along Lurgatan were built in the 18th century as miners’ cottages. Originally, they had sod roofs. Two families lived in each of the houses, hence two chimneys. When the mining activities were discontinued, Utö turned into the archipelago’s first real seaside resort and these cottages were converted into holiday homes.
