Giant’s kettles also known as glacial potholes (Jättegrytor in Swedish) are an ice age phenomenon. They look like large, usually cylindrical potholes in a solid rock and are created by stones being washed around in waterfalls, ice rivers or by sea waves. The size can be up to a few meters in diameter and four meters in depth. These are found in many places in Sweden, including several locations on Utö.
Sometimes, old coins were found in these giant pots, because people believed it could bring good fishing luck if you donated a coin.
