The signature different coloured eye look

Oakley Rd, Bromley BR2 8HP, United Kingdom

It was at Bromley Technical High School (now called Ravens Wood School) where 14-years old pupil David Jones (whom we know as David Bowie) acquired his different coloured eyes look. David had a fight with his friend George Underwood over a girl named Carol Goldsmith. George punched David in the left eye and his fingernail scratched the eyeball. A week later David had been rushed to hospital where he underwent two operations and was left with one permanently dilated pupil.Traumatic as it was, the discoloured eye which appeared black, not blue, ever since, would become an essential part of Bowie’s image, his signature look.

Despite the bust up and the injury, David and George remained life-long mates. They exchanged birthday presents up until Bowie’s death. They also collaborated professionally, and it was George who created album covers for Bowie’s “Hunky Dory” and “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”.
