Dschungel nightclub

Nürnberger Str. 50-55, 10789 Berlin, Germany

This impressive building which now houses Hotel Ellington used to be known for Dschungel nightclub. Back in the 70s it was West Berlin’s “Studio 54”, a club that defined the city’s nightlife. It was frequented by David Bowie and Iggy Pop while they lived in Berlin. Rumors say that Bowie even climbed on the stage one night to sing a Sinatra song, but the audience had no idea who he was and asked him to stop.

Bowie mentioned this place in his later song “Where are we now?”:

“Sitting in the Dschungel

On Nürnberger Straße

A man lost in time

Near KaDeWe

Just walking the dead”
