David Bowie's last live performance took place on November 9, 2006 at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. He was there for the Keep a Child Alive’s annual Black Ball fundraiser and played three tracks: Station to Station‘s “Wild is the Wind”, followed by Lodger‘s “Fantastic Voyage”, and the very last one was “Changes” which he performed with Alicia Keys.
Bowie's appearance there did not draw a lot of attention at the time, as nobody had even the faintest idea it would become his last public performance.
Hammerstein Ballroom has seen many other notable performances, including Brian Adams’ “Unplugged” recording, Oasis and Guns N’ Roses shows, Britney Spears’ first concert in New York City, Kylie Minogue and Swedish House Mafia, to name a few.
The place itself has an interesting history. It was used as a Freemason's temple in the 1930s and a trade union headquarters in the 1940s, fell into disuse in the 1970s, and was finally bought by Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, the ballroom's current owner.
