The floating opera stage of the Bregenz Festival stands on stilts in Lake Constance. Opera or musical productions here typically feature popular opera repertoire, but they are often extravagantly original and innovative. These performances frequently use the lake's waters as an extension of the stage. For instance, in Umberto Giordano's opera Andrea Chénier, the lake served as the bathtub where Marat was murdered. The main set piece for the production was a giant bust of the Jacobin, standing 24 meters high and weighing 60 tons.
And it is not all about music. In 2008, scenes for the 22nd James Bond film Quantum of Solace were filmed on the Seebühne during a performance of Tosca. Later during the same year, the German broadcasting corporation ZDF hosted its 2008 European Football Championship live broadcast studio on the floating stage.
