Sea customs house

Sjötullsbacken 24, 115 25 Stockholm, Sweden

Stora Sjötullen (The Big Sea Customs), also known as Blockhusuddstullen, was first mentioned in 1623. It was built on the foundation of Gustav Vasa's blockhouse, hence the name Blockhusudden. The customs controlled the sea traffic that came in from the Stockholm archipelago and collected tolls.

The current building was erected in 1727 after the original customs house had been destroyed by fire. The customs office was on the ground floor, and the customs officer’s residence was upstairs.

Today it is a residential building, and many Stockholmers are dreaming of an apartment here.
