Osteria Margutta

Via Margutta, 82, 00187 Roma RM, Italy

The history of the Osteria Margutta is a voyage back in time. In 1974 Pietro Gabrielli, a famous player for the national rugby team who turned music and theatre producer discovered this small tavern which had been in operation since 1965. Thanks to his deep love for the arts and to the collaboration with the literary magazine "Il Caffe’", Gabrielli transformed the tavern into a reference point and meeting place for many writers, visual artists, filmmakers and actors. To name a few, Italo Calvino, Giorgio De Chirico, Achille Campanile, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Natalia Ginzburg, Eugenio Montale, Peppino De Filippo, Pupella Maggio and Federico Fellini. Their past presence is today testified by the numerous commemorative plaques fixed on the back of the red and blue chairs of Osteria Margutta.
