For most of the 20th century, there was a limestone quarry and factory here until the area was closed to the public by the Swedish military in the 1970s–90s, when radar installations became operational. Now it is open to the public again.
The post-industrial landscape is almost surreal. One could film deserted Martian towns for a sci-fi movie here with minimal spend on decorations. It is not surprising that the current owner of this place, photographer and entrepreneur Jonas Hellström used the abandoned factory and its surroundings as a backdrop for commercials and rock videos. One of the old factory buildings has been converted into a trendy hotel and restaurant.
