Beheaded bishop

Suzanne Buisson square, Paris, France

Look for a small fountain topped by a statue of bishop holding his own head in his arms. This is Saint-Denis, the first bishop of Paris. According to the legend, he came to Paris to preach  and convert people to Christianity. This was not received favorably and he was beheaded by the authorities. The legend tells that after that he walked six kilometers with his severed head in his arms, carrying on preaching until he reached a settlement now known as Saint Denis.
