Philosophical drama The Sacrifice was the last work of Andrei Tarkovsky, the world-famous film director and screenwriter. The scene of a nuclear disaster and panic, which one of the most striking moments of the film, was shot by Brunkeberg tunnel in Stockholm. Tarkovsky spent several days looking for the right place all around the city and finally chose this one.
Oddly, this place became the centre of another tragedy again only 8 months later. This time for real, when the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was assassinated. His killer was standing in exactly the same spot where the camera was during the filming. One of the actors later asked Tarkovsky: "Did you have a premonition?". “No,” he answered, “I just saw right away that this was a place for a disaster.”
