Pippi’s Villa Villekulla?

Villa Kullen, Svindersviks gård, Nacka, Sweden

The beautiful Villa Kullen is located on a hill on the southside of Svindersvik. To those of you who read the book about Pippi Longstocking or watched the Swedish TV series from the 1960s, the house might look familiar. Rumor has it that Astrid Lindgren had visited the place and used it as a prototype for Pippi’s home. And it does indeed look like the house where Pippi lived with her horse Alfonso and monkey Mr. Nilsson. Even the name Villa Kullen reminds of Pippi's “Villa Villekulla”.

This Swiss-style wooden villa was built in 1879–1880 by Oscar Almgren, son of the silk manufacturer Knut August Almgren, who owned Svindersvik's farm. Villa Kullen was the Almgren family’s summer residence until 1949. Then the house together with the farm was handed over to the Nordic Museum. The building was sold in 2005 to a private individual, and put for sale again in 2020.
