Pasaana – The Rise of Skywalker

Wadi Rum Rd, Wadi Rum Village, Jordan

Wadi Rum, also known as the “Valley of the Moon,” is a vast desert landscape characterized by towering sandstone cliffs, red dunes, and dramatic rock formations. It has long been a favorite filming location for sci-fi and adventure films due to its otherworldly appearance. For The Rise of Skywalker, Wadi Rum became the planet Pasaana, where Rey, Finn, and Poe encounter the Aki-Aki Festival and are pursued by the First Order.

The film crew took advantage of the desert’s untouched beauty, filming sweeping aerial shots and high-speed chases through the sand dunes. The location’s natural rock formations provided a believable alien terrain without excessive CGI, allowing the actors to fully immerse themselves in the environment.

In Wadi Rum, you can stay at Star Wars-themed camps that offer an immersive desert experience. Some camps even market themselves specifically to Star Wars fans, inspired by the fact that Wadi Rum was used as the filming location for Pasaana in The Rise of Skywalker.

Many of these camps feature traditional Bedouin-style tents as well as modern “Martian domes” with transparent ceilings for stargazing—perfect for feeling like you’re on an alien planet. You can enjoy guided tours of the exact filming locations, take camel rides, go on 4x4 desert safaris, and experience Bedouin hospitality with traditional meals cooked in underground sand ovens.

Popular camps include:
Wadi Rum Star Wars Camp – A camp explicitly themed around the movie, offering desert tours to filming locations.
Memories Aicha Luxury Camp – A more upscale option with domed accommodations and stunning desert views.
Sun City Camp – Famous for its Martian domes, often compared to sci-fi settings.

If you’re a Star Wars fan looking for a truly immersive experience, staying in Wadi Rum is as close as you can get to living on an alien world!
