The island was chosen to represent Ahch-To, the hidden refuge of Luke Skywalker, where Rey seeks training in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

The island’s real-life stone huts, built by monks over a thousand years ago, were used as inspiration for Luke’s dwelling. The location’s inaccessibility made filming a challenge, with the crew having to transport equipment via boat and helicopter.
