Landsort Chapel

Landsort, Nynäshamn, Sweden

This simple wooden chapel from 1939 was designed by Ove Leijonhuvud and donated by Swedish industrialist and art patron Helge Axelsson Johnson. Inside one can see a famous altarpiece by artist Axel Sjöberg. A model ship, a so-called votive ship, hangs from the ceiling as a reminder of the influence that ships and boats have always had on the island.
