Balcón de Europa

Plaza Balcón de Europa, 1, 29780 Nerja, Málaga, Spain

One of Nerja’s main landmarks, the spectacular Balcón de Europa observation deck overlooks the Mediterranean. Some of the most beautiful images from the Verano Azul series were shot here. Next to the viewpoint, there is a hotel with the same name. On the hotel’s terrace the mythical Chanquete starred in several scenes.

Bonus fact: the name Balcón de Europa is popularly believed to have been invented by King Alfonso XII, who visited the area in 1885 following a disastrous earthquake. Local folklore says that he stood upon the site where the Balcón now stands, fascinated by the view, and he said "This is the balcony of Europe". In memory of this event - whether true or not - there is a statute of King Alfonso XII standing on the “balcony”.
