The “big” marine customs office

Knaperstavägen 9, 117 33 Stockholm, Sweden

In 1785 Långholmens customs office moved from Lilla Sjötullen (“the small marine customs office”, https://reveal.world/story/1388) to this two-storey stone building which became known as Sjötullen (“the marine customs office”) or Stora Sjötullen (“the big marine customs office”). Here, the farmers arriving from the islands had to pay customs duties for the goods they would sell in the Old Town square.

In 1857 when the customs officers left Långholmen's prison guards moved in, and the new era began.

Today, the building is a private residence.
