Back in the 1970s this venue was known as Hammersmith Odeon. It was here on stage on July 3rd, 1973 that David Bowie announced the retirement of Ziggy Stardust, his alter-ego. This came as a surprise to everyone, including his bandmates. Some fans thought he was quitting music completely. Luckily, that was not the case!
