Where it began: Bowie’s home in Bromley

4 Plaistow Grove, Bromley BR1 3PB, UK

The two storey residence at 4 Plaistow Grove, Bromley is notable as David Bowie's home for almost a decade - from June 1955 until April 1965, aged 8-18. During this time, Bowie formed his first band - the Konrads - at the age of 15. They played guitar-based rock and roll at local youth gatherings and weddings. A year later, in 1963 Bowie left the technical school and informed his parents of his intention to become a pop star.

Years later, shortly after he was diagnosed with cancer, David Bowie made a secret farewell trip to London with his wife and daughter. The house in Bromley was on their itinerary, as one of the places that defined his life.
