UN-station at the Zone

Rumbi tänav T2, Põhja-Tallinna linnaosa, Põhja-Tallinna, 10415 Harju maakond, Estonia

Between 1913 and 1979 Tallinn’s Central Power Station was situated here. The power plant chimney was featured in Andrey Tarkovsky’s film Stalker in the episode with the UN outpost when the Stalker, the Writer and the Professor attempt to break into The Zone. Tarkovsky had the UN’s acronym painted on the chimney. Today the railtracks are all gone, but the UN inscription remains. There is also a commemorative plaque stating that Stalker was filmed here.

The former power plant building was later converted into city’s main culture hub, which boasts to be one of the most unique creative and event spaces in Northern Europe. It has also been the venue for the Stalker Festival.
