On October 21, 1833 a baby boy was born to a family in Stockholm, Sweden who was to become a famous scientist, inventor, businessman and founder of the Nobel Prize. His father was Immanuel Nobel and his mother was Andriette Ahlsell Nobel. They named their son Alfred.
Unfortunately, the original house in Norrlandsgatan 9 did not survive. In 1945 the decision was made to rebuild Stockholm's center. In 50s, 60s and 70s all the old buildings in the area were torn down, along with the house where Alfred Nobel was born.
You may still see it on a picture and imagine how the whole area looked like.
There is a memorial plaque on the present building at Norrlandsgatan 9. It says: “Alfred Nobel, the inventor, culture promoter, pacifist was born here on October 21, 1833.”
