Hôtel Barrière: Silver Screen Romance

38 Rue Jean Mermoz, 14800 Deauville, France

The love story by Claude Lelouch, "A Man and a Woman" (“Un homme et une femme)”, was released in 1966 and won the "Golden Palm" at the Cannes Film Festival, the Academy Award in the category of "Best Foreign Language Film," and the admiration of audiences worldwide. Fifty years later, in 2016, it was once again screened at Cannes as part of the special Cannes Classics program. The film was shot in the resort town of Deauville, and some scenes were filmed at the local Hôtel Barrière Le Normandy. Recently, the hotel completed a significant renovation, but it carefully preserves its connection to the creation of this masterpiece. One of the suites is dedicated to "A Man and a Woman" and features photographs of the most iconic scenes from the film.

The hotel was used as a filming location for several other TV shows and films. In 1996 it was used as the location for “Agatha Christie's Poirot” in the episode “The Murder on the Links”. The 2013 romantic comedy “Hôtel Normandy” is named after the hotel, with its main character, Alice, staying at the hotel.

Bonus fact: Coco Chanel had her Chanel hat shop within the hotel grounds.
