One of the most striking moments of the first episode is when the inhabitants of Pripyat stand on the bridge looking at the power plant, not realising yet what has happened. This scene was filmed on an already out-of-use bridge in Petrasiunai. The HBO team were looking for a place that would appear out of nowhere. This one was a perfect fit for the “bridge of death”: no beginning, no end, built over the railway and originally intended for water pipes from the Petrashyunsky cemetery.
