Atlas Copco's underground testing tunnels

Sickla industriväg 19, 131 54 Nacka, Sweden

The Atlas Copco mine is a test facility for Atlas Copco's quarry and mining machinery located under Sickla Shopping District in Sickla, Nacka Municipality. In 2012, parts of the mine were made available to the public.

The mine was constructed in 1938 in the underground under the Atlas Copco (then Atlas Diesel) factory area 20 meters underground. Here  the company tested and demonstrated its rock drills and mining machines under realistic conditions. The mine under Sickla eventually grew to cover three kilometers of tunnels on two planes: 20 and 40 meters underground, respectively.

The upper mine, 20 meters below the ground has been stopped being used in the 1990s, but work on secret tests is still ongoing at the 40-meter level. The 20-meter level was made available to the public in 2012, but only at certain times and only with a guide. The public displays are a collaborative project between Nacka Municipality, Stockholm County Museum, Atrium Ljungberg and Atlas Copco.

The mines are now connected with the new elevator and communication shaft under Atlas Copco's head office. There are some opportunities to book a guided tour with the Stockholm County Museum (https://stockholmslansmuseum.se/).
Downstairs in the mines there are also a concert/conference hall and a cafe.
