The Dog, the Duck and the Animal Farm

18 Bateman St, London, UK

his hunt-themed establishment was originally founded in 1734 on the site of the Duke of Monmouth’s home. However, the building that houses the pub today was built more than a hundred years later, in 1897 by the architect Francis Cannon.

Here, in this pub, George Orwell raised a glass of absinthe when his book “Animal Farm” was selected for the American Book of the Month Club. The famous English landscape painter John Constable and poet, illustrator and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti have ordered from the bar, too. And pop icon Madonna once popped in for a pint!

The pub is also famous for its interiors, with many of the original features, including thousands of beautiful, glazed tiles, mahogany paneling, and decorative mirrors.
