Planet Savareen

Playa de la Barca, Jandia, Spain

The stunning landscapes of Fuerteventura, part of Spain’s Canary Islands, served as the backdrop for the desert planet Savareen in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). Known for its vast, arid terrain and golden sand dunes, the island provided the perfect setting for the film’s final act, where Han Solo and his crew confront crime syndicate leader Dryden Vos.

The production team chose Fuerteventura for its remote, unspoiled scenery, which seamlessly fit the Star Wars universe’s rugged frontier worlds. Filming primarily took place in the island’s south, particularly in the Jandía Natural Park and the Cañada de la Barca area, where expansive dunes and rocky landscapes created an otherworldly aesthetic. The crew constructed makeshift structures, including the Savareen refinery, blending them with the natural environment to enhance the planet’s authenticity.

Fuerteventura’s role in Solo has since attracted Star Wars fans eager to explore the filming locations firsthand. Its cinematic landscapes, often compared to Tatooine and Jakku, make it a dream destination for both movie buffs and adventure seekers.
