Martian Skies

Montaña Hendida, Fuerteventura, Spain

Perched high in Fuerteventura’s barren interior, Mirador Astronómico Sicasumbre is the island’s premier stargazing spot—and a must-visit even in daylight. Located along a well-maintained road with ample parking, this remote viewpoint offers breathtaking panoramic views that feel straight out of a Martian landscape.

By night, Sicasumbre transforms into an astronomer’s paradise. Thanks to Fuerteventura’s low light pollution, high altitude, and clear skies, the mirador provides some of the best starry views in the Canary Islands. The Milky Way, planets, and constellations shine with incredible clarity, making it an ideal location for astrophotography or deep-space observation.

There are information panels and a mounting stand for telescopes, but you’ll need to bring your own equipment. Whether you visit for the otherworldly daytime scenery or the cosmic spectacle after dark, Sicasumbre is an unforgettable experience for explorers of both Earth and sky.
