Water filtering hills

Tunåsen, Gamla Uppsala, Sweden

The water that Uppsala consumes comes mainly from Fyris river, which needs to be purified. As the first step of this process, the water from the Fyris is pumped up to the pools on top of the ridge. It is filtered and cleaned by the gravel as it runs through the ridge towards town. After 6 to 8 months the filtered water is pumped up within the waterworks of the town.
