Does the name Primus sound familiar to you? The famous portable soot-free kerosene stove Primus was invented by two Swedes: F.W. Lindqvist and J.V. Svensson. Primus brand name quickly became synonymous with reliable stoves, and in some countries - synonymous with kerosene stove itself. Primus stoves became the primary choice for those heading off on demanding expeditions, including two polar expeditions – to the North Pole with Andrée in 1897 and to the South Pole with Amundsen in 1911.
What does it have to do with Primus neighborhood in Lilla Essingen, and with Primusgatan (Primus street), and Primus Park? Well, everything. Between 1907 and 1950 the iconic stoves were produced at Primus Factory right here.

At the end of the 1950s, the factory buildings were demolished to make space for the Essingeleden highway. The old factory area was transformed into Västra and Östra Primusparken.
