Astrid Lindgren's home at Dalagatan 46 in Stockholm is where the world-famous author lived and worked from 1941 to her death in 2002. This is the place where Astrid Lindgren became a world-renowned author, and where timeless classics such as “Pippi Longstocking”, "Mio, My Son" and "Ronja the Robber's Daughter" were written. Books that came to spread all over the world, as well as many articles and letters.
Here, she created her stories, shaped her independent view of the world, and laid the foundation for her role as an influencer. For Astrid Lindgren, home was the private sphere that allowed time for reflection, silence, and solitude. It was a place characterized by the modesty that was typical of Astrid Lindgren.
In some of her many letters, she talks about her daily life: "In the morning, I lie in bed and write, then I go to the publishing house and tell other authors how to change their books to make them worth reading, then I go home and continue working. It goes on like clockwork without interruption. Whenever I have a free moment, I work." (Letter to Louise Hartung in Berlin).
The four-room apartment in central Stockholm looks the same as it did when Astrid Lindgren lived there. Since 2015 the apartment has been open to the public through guided tours. The tours are conducted in Swedish and occasionally in English and German. Reservation in advance is necessary. Tickets can be booked through the webpage of The Astrid Lindgren Society
