Stenhuggarbyn, 179 61 Stenhamra, Sweden
Soon after quarrying and stone cutting activities started at Stenhamra, a well organised community grew up around it. Besides the private homes, there was an office building, a cooperative store, a school, a playhouse, several warehouses, stables, earth cellars and wooden sheds, a boathouse, a dancing floor and a music pavilion. By 1900 Stenhamra was an independent and self-sustaining village with around 500 inhabitants. The homes that the City of Stockholm provided for the families of Stenhamra quarry workers are still in good condition.
